Let me introduce a woman after my own heart with her love of tartans, anything Celtic, and hunky heroes. We must have been sisters in another life.
Your going to love Annette, and be sure to grab her book if you haven’t. It’s an awesome read!
One of the reasons I wanted to blog this month on Donna’s site—apart from a desire to help celebrate her release of Dangerous Highlander—is that I have an ongoing love affair with all things Celtic, which I know she shares. I enjoy bagpipe music, own numerous pieces of Celtic knot jewelry, and currently have a set of tartan flannel sheets on my bed. Naturally, what I dream about is Celtic, too—bare-chested Scottish heroes in kilts.
Although I’m writing a contemporary paranormal series about immortal Soul Gatherers, the hero of my debut book, Drawn into Darkness, is a four-hundred-year-old Scottish hottie by the name of Lachlan MacGregor. You might be aware that Drawn into Darkness won the Golden Heart for best paranormal in 2008, but did you know that I also finaled in the 2005 Golden Heart with a medieval hero by the name of Alexander MacCallum? Hmmm. Sensing a trend? ![]()
In honor of bonnie Scotland and Donna’s fantabulous release, I thought I’d test your knowledge of Scottish tartans. Donna and I share some history—my grandmother’s maiden name was Grant—so I’ve included the Grant tartan. Here are six patterns; see if you can match them to their clan:
a.
b.
c.
d.
e.
f.
1. Grant
2. MacCallum
3. MacGregor
4. Royal Stewart
5. Black Watch
6. MacLeod
I’m offering a copy of Drawn into Darkness to one lucky commenter today. You don’t have to match the tartans correctly to be entered in the draw for the book—just a comment will do—but I’ll choose a second winner from the correct responses, and that winner will receive a $15 dollar Amazon.com gift card.
I hope you’ll take a moment to sample the reviews, book trailer, and excerpt of Drawn into Darkness at my website: www.annettemccleave.com. While you’re there, check out the cover and excerpt for my upcoming release of Bound by Darkness coming in May 2010!
Happy holidays to all.

Tamsyn – Thanks for breaking the ice and taking the first shot at the tartans. :-)
Joye – LOL on the golf course! Oddly enough it seems plaid shirts are in again, at least to some degree. I saw several kids at my daughter’s school sporting tartan this Fall.
Miranda – Thanks for giving it a whirl. Half the fun is just playing, right? Good luck in the draws!

Hi RK! Thanks, and happy holidays to you, too!

Oh! I’m going to have to agree about the men in kilts ;) Though, I’m going to have to say that the abs on yours and Donna’s highlander hero’s are rockin! Oh la la :D
Okay, here is my stab at the Tartans:

Tes – Abs, arms, I’m right there with ya! Armbands and tattoos are also good. :-)

I have no clue about which tartan is which, but I do admire a man in a kilt. Now, it’s not fair to mention shortbread on your website and not give us the recipe, could you post on your blog (if already posted under which date?). I just bought a tin of Walkers at Costco, 4.6 lbs. for $20 which I considered a good deal, but would consider making it myself.
I like both covers, will we be finding out more about how Emily grows into her powers in the next book or are you possibly thinking of doing a soap opera move and having her age 10 years and giving her a book of her own next year?

Jane – Thanks so much.
Lisa B – Thank you.
Amazing how intricate plaid designs can be, isn’t it? The myriad ways a few colored threads can be arranged. Hope you had fun!

What is with the sexiness of all things Scottish? I’m not sure but I’m a serious believer of the theory.

I’m late to the post. I only got 2 of the tartans correct. I already have my copy of DRAWN INTO DARKNESS. Now all I need is the time to read it.
Hope everyone has a great Holiday Season.
